Simple, High Quality Reusable K-Cup Designs
I've recently switched to more regular coffee drinking in the mornings, and traditional single-use K-Cups can get expensive over time. Decided to give these reusable and refillable cups a try. For the price of a mere dozen or so disposable K-Cup, you receive a set of 4 of these stainless steel beauties. The complete set contents include the 4 cup, lids for each, instructions, and a rubberized (possibly silicon) finger cover for safely extracting the cup from your coffee machine after brewing. You simply fill the cups 1/4 to 2/3 full (per the instructions) with coffee grounds, press the lid firmly into place, and insert the cup into your coffee maker with the orange indicators facing left and right, and the indicator arrow facing you. Make your brewing size selection and off you go. As for the brewing experience, I noticed a couple of things. Firstly, if did get a couple more coffee grounds in my mug than with a traditional K-Cup. However, they were so few and so tiny, it was no issue at all. The second observation, was that the water flowed through the reusable cup much more quickly than usual. After extracting and opening the cup, it appeared that the water pressure had pushed the grounds up higher in the cup, against the lid, suggesting that only a portion of the grounds got properly saturated. These factors resulted in a slightly weaker/paler cup of coffee than I'd expected. I'd suggest getting a darker roast than usual if you intend to switch completely to these reusable cups. That said, the coffee was still quite tasty. Then comes the cleaning part. Despite the inclusion of the finger guards in the box, they were unneeded. Just a few moments after the coffee machine completed it's cycle, the cup was cool enough to handle with my bare fingers. You simply remove the cup from the machine, pop off the lid, and dump the used grounds. Most of the grounds came out easily with a shake over the garbage, but some clung persistently to the sides of the cup. Running a spoon around the interior took care of most of that. Then a quick rinse in the sink, and you're all done. Admittedly, the ground from the lid and sides of the cup rinsed out quite easily, but a couple of grounds would remain stuck in the bottom. A few extra passes with the facet (in sprayer mode) dislodged them in short order. While I like having the extra cups included in this package, they are so easily cleaned that I can't imagine needing more than the one unless I needed to make several cups of coffee or difference cups of coffee at once. At the end of the day, I think this is a great product for both the environment and your wallet, though depending on the type of coffee you like, you may wish to make changes.
