Dolls Kill Vintage Sailor Girl Costume: Cute Design With Fit Drawbacks

This Dolls Kill Sailor Girl costume is really cute, made of nice materials however I am not crazy about the fit of the top. For the most part the costume looks as I was expecting from the product photos however I was expecting the color of it to be more white but in person it is a true cream color. The color of the costume is still very pretty though so not a huge deal. Also to note, the top come with clear bra straps which I did not see in the product photos or mentioned in the description. I am happy these were included as I find I have to wear them to keep the top up however I am also disappointed with this since when they are put on the costume they can be seem from the back which is this is something I expected I wouldn't have chosen this costume as I find the clear bra straps showing from the back make it look very cheap. The costume comes with 4 pieces which include the top, a pair of clear bra straps, the skirt and a head band. I ordered this in a size X-small and consider the skirt to be true to size however I am not sure how I feel about the top. I am on the fence with how I feel about the fit of the dress on me. For reference, I am 5'3", 115 lbs, 34C bust and typically wear a US size 2 or small. Also, I am familiar with this particular brand and find that I usually fit an XS or S depending on the cut/material/etc. Since the top of this costume is sleeveless and has a back zip closure which the top cannot be tightened or loosened I went with an XS in this one as I wanted to ensure the top was tight enough to stay up. The top itself looks very nicely made and has a really cute design. It is mainly made of a silky cream color material that has very little to no stretch to it and is accented with a silky navy blue fabric as well as a navy blue bow in the middle of the bust and rhinestones adhered to the navy blue striping. All of the accents on the top are evenly stitched on and the rhinestones are spaced evenly and aligned. The top has a good thickness to it and feels good quality. There are two pieces of boning (one on each side of the top) that help to give it structure. I typically find boning uncomfortable however I do not really feel it when on in this top. The cups of the top have underwire and are padded. When I first tried the top on, I did not notice the clear plastic bra straps included and found that the top was too big on my rib cage to stay up and kept sliding down. When I attached the bra straps it changed the entire fit for me. The top was able to stay up and the padding in the cups is just enough to push up the girls with good support and not needing to wear something under it. However as I previously mentioned, I am really not a fan of how the bra straps look showing out the back of the top. I also find them to be very uncomfortable to wear on this top so I really wish I did not have to use them. Also to note, although the top looks and feels nice made, there is something off with one side of the strap / collar area in the front as it does not lay flat and puckers outward in the shoulder area. To make sure this wasn't just my body causing this I also asked my sister and a friend to try the top on and they had the same issue with it. The other side of the top fits fine and lays flat so this might just be a one off but definitely needs to be altered a little so it sits right. The skirt of the costume looks as expected from the product photos. The material it is made is silky and lightweight, with very little to no stretch to it. It is accented with navy blue stripes in fabric, with rhinestones and has two navy blue bows as expected. All of the detailing is nicely done, stitched every and the rhinestones are spaced evenly and aligned The skirt has a side zip closure that made is easy to take on/off and lays flat when on. I really love the look and fit of the skirt. It sits lower on my hips which I like and I really like that is only pleated in the front as the length of the skirt is very short so having no pleats in the back allows it to lay flat and gives a little more coverage than skirts I have like this that are the same length but pleated the full way around. To note When I am standing still the length is ok on me that nothing shows however when I walk or bend in it the cheeks definitely show so I do have to wear it with something with coverage under it. However to note the skirt is not lined and the material is a little thin so I have not found something to put under it yet that cannot be seen through the skirt when in light so I really wish this would have included something to wear under it that went with the costume. The headband is nothing special and I find it is not the best quality. It is a pretty basic head band that is covered in a navy blue material and has a square and round rhinestones adhered to it in an alternating pattern. The headband is comfortable to wear, stays on my head and looks fine for a costume piece however the rhinestones are not attached evenly, some of the spacing is off, a few of the squares are crooked and there are a few places where it is sticky to touch around the rhinestones. I find the quality of this to be a bit disappointing but it will do to wear since it goes perfect with the costume. Overall this is a really cute nicely designed Sailor Girl costume, it looks and feels well made for the most part however is lacking in a few areas and I am really disappointed with the top and the costume in general could use some improvements, I am on the fence with how I feel about the fit butI find it ok to wear however it would not be my first choice.
