Well built responsive,

I just upgraded from a Trek checkpoint 2024 AL5 gen 2 to a 2026 SL7 checkpoint all carbon gen 3. On my old Checkpoint I had a crane creek eeSILK alloy plus seatpost, which I had no problems with what so ever. I decided for this bike I wanted to look at some other options maybe something with a bit more travel and the ability to adjust ride for conditions. After many reviews and talking with some other riders, i ended up pulling the trigger on the Kinekt Carbon fiber seat post XR. The installation was fairly easy, the directions that came were a little tough for my old eys to read, but they had some very good videos that I watched that made installation take roughly 30 minutes. I did have to Change the lower and upper springs on mine, due to weight, I am about 246, so that put me in the red / purple spring combination. The that probably took an addition 15 to 20 minutes, again plenty of great videos to guide you through that process. I another thing that gave me a sort of pause to figure out is the control knob, when you look at the directions you sort of expect to find a silver type knob with a hole to putt a handle or something to adjust tension. I ha a black nylon knob on mine, so I figured I could use my hands to adjust the tension. There was no way whatsoever how it’s gonna be able to turn that nylon control knob. It was just too hard when you look in the back of the nylon control knob you will see where it takes a hex key for you to make adjustments again nothing major. It just took my slow self a little time to figure out. After getting everything on, I took it out for a short 3 mile spin. Everything function as it should. I had no sliding of the seat post in my graphite frame important do not forget to use your carbon paste when putting a carbon seat post onto a carbon framed bike.. I didn’t notice there was quite a bit bounce, especially when I rode at lower speed. I don’t know if that is partly due to the inertia that you were putting on the bike from peddling at low speed or possibly not having the control knob adjusted properly when I did increase tension on the control knob it seemed to reduce some of that low speed bounce as I got up into some of my higher gears with speed somewhere between 15 mph or higher, I noticed no bounce whatsoever seat post was pretty rocksteady. I did do a short stent over some gravel or loose lime rock the seat post seem to respond very well with to my body movement vs the conditions that I was riding on I did not bottom out the seat post at anytime during the ride even when i hit a couple of potholes intentinally to see what would happen for the first time out I was pleased with the overall feel of it. Note: the one thing people should know upfront you will not be able to use your standard saddle bag with a seat post. The control knob extends a distance out from the rear of the seat post and it doesn’t allow in my experience most saddlebags to flush up enough to your seat post I Tried roughly 3 of my old saddlebags. Kinekt does offer a saddle bag. I did purchase it and will write a review on it later. Completed 37 mile ride today, The Kinekt seat post performed fine most of my ride was on an asphalt rail trail, but there are plenty of of areas of pothole, roots pushing up the asphalt in places so on.. I though the seat post performed well when i hit something or just going through a rough patch, the seatpost responded as it should and provide the relief need to your back side, I could feel it and at times hear the spring tension as it adjusted to rougher sections of the trail. After about 10 miles I did notice again at lower speeds the bouncing sensation of the seat post as I rode. Again When I sped up that went away. As I mentioned before I may need to do some more adjustment to the spring tension. I will say after my ride and even the next day I did not feel beat up, my lower back was fine.. The biggest difference between the eeSILK+ and the Kinekt from my experience is the eeSILK provides a more subtle ride. I hardly ever noticed it was on my bike. It did really well on asphalt by not so much on big gravel or potholes in those conditions I would feel in more in may back the next day. The kINEKT; you definitely know it’s there. It seems to respond better to bigger potholes or harsh, gravel conditions, or even lime rock the traveling the ability to adjust the spring seems to make it better suited for those conditions, even with my short time riding with it. The bouncing at the lower speeds I don’t really care for it. I’m not sure yet if I will be able to adjust for it I’m not ready to give up on the seat post just yet. I want to put another 2 or 3 long rides on it and see if I can find a way to smooth out the ride. More to come…
