Perfect, Stylish, shelf to install Inside your 12" Cabinet Door!
This baby just solved a problem that's haunted me for over five years! Since I bought this old house, I've been searching for a 'spice rack' that's short enough to install on the door of the cup/glass cabinet above a 24" wide coffee station in my kitchen. The parameters needed was a unit less than 10.75"-11" long/2"-3" deep max, to allow me to 'hide' a number of small extracts and supplement bottles that I typically forget to take if they're NOT RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME...meaning, they either take up precious space on shelves, or, wind up as an 'eyesore' on the counter. Yes...I'm a bit 'anal' about clutter. Unfortunately, all of the shorter spice racks I've encountered were either way to deep for my use, or, 11.2" ( !) or greater. Still on the prowl for a suitable shelf, last week, while tweeking my search to include narrow shelves for extract bottles, one of the suggestions was for a 'mail' organizer. Huh? I quickly noted that most of these units are usually less than 11" long. Whoa. I felt I had finally hit paydirt! However, as almost every 'mail organizer' for sale has hooks to store keys below them —which was not needed for this task— I began to look for ones whose pictures seemed to indicate removing those key-hooks would be fairly easy *without* damaging the structural integrity of the unit. Boy did I make the right choice choosing this one! Within one minute of taking it out of the box, I had grabbed my kitchen pliers and removed those pesky space-hogging hooks by using a simple back and forth motion. Voila! It took another ten minutes to install this beautiful shelf unit perfectly level, using zip screws. This unit is solid, stylish, and, so very perfect for my needs, while the price can't be beat for a shelf unit this sturdy. Bonus: it even matches a larger 5-tier unit I installed inside a 20" door last year. Now I'm seriously thinking to get another for the next shelf up to keep my small colorful juice glasses handy. Yes...I'm VERY well pleased :) Thinking I can't possibly be the *only* person in the world looking to utilize the dead space behind their 12" doors, I've added all that in hopes it solves someone else's storage kerfuffle. I guess I should add that AS A MAIL UNIT it also seems a rather perfect choice, keys and all if you need that, or, if not...just grab a wrench and detach them.
