Awesome doorbell camera for the price!
This is a great camera at an affordable price. I own several cameras associated with this brand and so far I've had only minor complaints. This camera fits right into that category, but has many of the same features of the "big box" branded cameras at a fraction of the cost. This camera is a great way to add some additional security to your doorways and gives you some peace of mind. First, the pros: Great picture quality. Make sure you change the quality over to HD on the app. The default is SD which is definitely not up to par. The app- I paired this with the CloudEdge app just because all my other cameras were on this app already. I only mention this because the instructions say to pair with the Zumimall app. I did look at that app and it looks very similar to the Cloudedge app I'm already using. I love the app and it's very easy to use. You can see all the features in one of my pictures, but you are able to review video, set motion detection alerts, screenshot, use the intercom, record, and many other things just from one user friendly screen. Ease of install- I consider myself somewhat handy, but I think this would be fairly easy to install even with just basic tools. If mounting on wood, you could probably get away with not having a drill. If you have one, it's definitely going to make install super easy and simple. A drill is a MUST if mounting onto brick or concrete. I mounted mine on to brick and the process was super easy. The instructions don't say, but I used a 1/4 masonry bit which the anchors fit perfectly into. If mounting onto wood, you don't need the anchors and should use a much smaller drill bit. Once the camera was fully charged, I had the camera up and running in roughly 10 minutes. Security features- motion detection works great. Gives you an alert straight to your phone in about 5 seconds after motion is detected with a recorded clip of the "interaction" with the camera. Night vision is great and would easily let you see what was "happening" from your phone without going to the door if needed. Doorbell- Let's not forget the main purpose of this product is to act as a doorbell! It does what it is suppose to do. I mounted the "sound box" a considerable distance from the main unit and it picks up just fine. I was also worried that the ring wouldn't be loud enough, but to my surprise the ringer is plenty loud enough for my entire home (roughly 2200 sq. feet). There are four volume levels to choose from which I thought was nice in case you maybe had a smaller home and didn't need the full volume. If you have a much larger home, the instructions have a email listed where you can request another "ringer". Not sure if this is at an additional cost or free. The "ringer" has two options for power. You can either use a standard outlet (corded) or use batteries to go cordless. I opted to just use rechargeable batteries. You do get an alert to your phone when someone rings the doorbell as well. However, you do have to open the app to answer the "call" and have a conversation with the person. This is slightly inconvenient, but not that big of a deal in my eyes. Price- For the price tag, this doorbell camera is feature rich and I think could easily hold it's own against much higher priced cameras on the market. Cons- My only complaint about this camera is the "Anti-tamper" feature. The camera itself is secured to the mounting platform by a star screw that is not typically carried by thieves (it's supplied with the camera for install though). On the back of the camera is a "button" that is pushed in by pressure against the mounting device. The idea behind this is that if someone was attempting to steal your camera, the button is released and the anti-tamper alarm is triggered. The doorbell would then sound a "siren" and start recording, hopefully making any would be thieves retreat. I thought this would be a great feature given the many stories you hear about these type of cameras being stolen. My complaint regarding this feature is that it works "too well". It's super "touchy" and I had the anti-tamper alarm go off just by pressing the doorbell several times during testing. I tried several different methods to attempt to remedy the issue, but the anti-tamper alarm was triggered eventually. My solution to this issue, was just to turn off the anti-tamper alarm from the app. Luckily this feature was put into the app so you could remove the camera for recharging. Personally, I'm not too worried about this camera being stolen. I live in what I believe is a relatively safe, more rural area. Plus, I keep the motion detection feature on constantly, so if someone was approaching my porch I would get an alert and see what was going on. If it does happen to get stolen, thanks to the lower price tag, I wouldn't feel as scammed and could either purchase again or upgrade to a more secure unit. Maybe this "feature flaw" has something to do with how I have the camera mounted, but I think it is a weak point that could be improved in future designs. Overall, this camera is fantastic and does everything I want it to do. I can't speak to the battery life of the camera yet, but the other cameras I have by this brand last many months before recharge. Plus it's easy to remove and charge when that time comes. If I have any new developments or issues with the product, I'll be sure and update this review.
Ring 2k imaging capabilities with Battery or hardwire option
Great overall but good luck if you need to mount it on a surface that isn't perfectly flat
