Doesn't Mount Flat To Wall

Short Version: Pretty sure I'm going to return this because downsides are too much. Deal breaker for me is that the shape of this thing makes it impossible to mount flat against the wall without mocking up some kind of custom solution, which I'm not willing to do. Skip this if flat wall mounting is important to you. Long Version: I've had it for a couple days and it's fine. Functionality wise, it works. Syncs up easy with the sensor and took maybe 15min to get it all setup, which included needing to manually select my time zone because it comes pre-set to USA-Pacific. No biggie. I was actually pretty excited with how easy it was to setup and start showing info. But then... I went to mount it on the wall and YIKES! The shape of the back side of this thing - what the heck? Who decided it should be sloped/angled like this? I mean, it's fine if you mount the thing well below eye level because then it'll be angled up and be great for that viewing angle. But if you want to mount it at eye level or above, nope. Because the shape forces the display to be angled upwards it makes doing that pointless. Even the sensor has a silly design choice. There's a lip at the bottom of the sensor that is fine to help it stand, say, on a counter top, but when you go to mount it that lip at the bottom forces the bottom of the unit outward, making it very awkward. I mean, the sensor itself doesn't even mount flat. Did someone on the design team have a bad experience with mounting things flat against a wall? Doesn't get nearly bright enough even under DC power. I set it up on the kitchen counter on it's flimsy little pop-out legs and noticed I could barely read it from 15 feet away. With it plugged into DC/wall power and set to the highest brightness level. Not good. And on battery power? I wish there was an option to keep the display on continually under battery power. Hey, if I'm willing to let this thing toast batteries just so I don't have to constantly walk up to it to wake it up let me do it. That's my choice and that's why I have rechargeable batteries. But, as it stands, on battery power the screen goes dark after like 10 seconds or whatever so forget about walking into a room and being able to glance over for the info unless it's on DC/wall power. Going back t the sensor and that stupid little lip, I could easily lop that off so it mounts flat, but 1) why should I have to? And 2) the main panel having that awkward angle is the deal breaker for me. So, yeah... decent enough unit, just a few really bad design choices in my opinion. Steer clear unless you plan to mount the main panel low and are willing to let the sensor(s) sit on a flat surface or lop off a plastic piece if you want to mount it flat somewhere. Pros: - Overall design looks great in white - Screen looks good up close - Great price - Works Cons: - The stupid shape of the back of the main panel preventing flat mounting - The stupid shape of the back of the sensor preventing flat mounting - Screen looks terrible from 15-feet away cause it's not bright enough - Screen viewing angle is terrible, even up close - No option to keep the main panel screen on continually under battery power (give me the choice to burn through batteries if I want!)
