Small, Well Built Knife!
This is a really solid little knife. It is a little smaller than I expected (my fault for not pulling out a tape measure when ordering), but it has a lot going for it. It doesn't have any thumb stud or way to pull the blade out, but it has a flipper in the back that you can open the blade with, after getting used to it. It requires a lot of effort to get the blade to open due to an indent in the blade, which a protrusion on the frame lock fits into, making it difficult to get started moving, but once it's out of the indentation, it moves easily. I gave the knife to multiple family members and friends, and about half of them figured out how to open it. Even after they figured it out, most ended up struggling with it for some time in order to get it to open. The knife also doesn't come with any wrench to take off or move the pocket clip to another placement on the knife, so I will have to either buy a small Torx wrench or find a friend with one in his toolbox. The knife itself has a really nice look to it in both the open and closed positions, so I will still enlist this knife as my EDC for a while, but I will probably start carrying the Kershaw Scallion (pictured in the center) soon, which seems to be more appropriately sized for my hand and my daily needs. Pictured is the Ontario 8848 RAT, Kershaw 1620OL Scallion, and the Ember, along with another unnamed knife that I didn't purchase. The RAT is much larger than I need, while the Ember is on the borderline of being too small. Also pictured is the indentation in the blade of the knife, and the protrusion in the frame lock that holds the blade shut when closed, and offers some resistance when trying to open it. Pros: -Looks great. -Solid stainless steel construction should hold up to hard use. -Pocket clip can be moved to accommodate different pockets/preferences. -Flipper design is fairly easy to use (once you get used to it) and fun to show off. -Knife will definitely not come open in your pocket due to the firmness of the flipper set-up. -Deep carry pocket clip is a nice touch. -Blade came sharp enough to cut hairs off my arm and slice paper straight out of the box. -The frame lock, which makes the opening a little stiff, acts as a bulletproof safety when the knife is open, preventing unwanted closure while in use. Cons: -Flipper requires a lot of effort to open, while the frame is small and difficult to get a tight grip on to get enough pressure (not a problem once you get the right grip and get the hang of how much pressure is required to get it open. I wouldn't recommend this for females or anyone with a weaker grip for this reason). Also, there is no other way to open the knife besides the flipper mechanism, as there is no nail nick or thumb stud to open it. -Pocket clip requires additional tools that didn't come with the knife, so moving the clip to another position on the knife will require another purchase, or enlisting the help of a friend with the proper wrench set for this (I have a Torx Driver set, but the smallest one was still too big for these screws). -Made in China (kind of reaching on this one, as you truly get what you pay for, and for the price on this knife, you're really getting a lot for your money, and it seems to be well built).
Overall I am happy with the Yolink GDC itself.
