Substantial Build, Comfortable Controls, and Finally a Folding Scooter for Heavier Riders
I am around 300 pounds and had a surprisingly difficult time finding a kick scooter rated to support my weight. I previously bought another heavy-duty model that impressed me at first, but after some use the wheels began creaking and cracking, the frame developed some noise, and the rear-only foot brake struggled badly on downhill sections. That experience is what led me to this scooter. At first I wondered whether the folding design was mostly a gimmick because, in photos, it looks fairly similar to other large-wheel scooters. Once I unboxed it, though, the build quality was better than I expected. The matte black finish looks clean, the deck has a rubberized edge around it, and the grip surface is genuinely grippy. The deck is also a good size for an adult. The welds look clean, the frame feels substantial, and it gives me more confidence that it may actually tolerate my weight over time. The handlebars are especially comfortable because the grips are not just simple round tubes. They flare outward to provide some palm support, which makes a noticeable difference. The braking setup is another major improvement over my previous scooter. There are separate front and rear brake levers, and after a little adjustment they feel substantial, comfortable, and functional. The brakes use friction pads against the wheels, so performance does drop when the wheels are wet, which is worth keeping in mind. I also really appreciate the folding mechanism because several other scooters I found with comparable weight ratings did not fold at all. This one becomes much easier to store or put in a vehicle. The included bell is inexpensive, but it works perfectly well for what it is. The basket is fairly easy to install and looks nice on the scooter, although I would consider it a light-duty basket. Between the basket itself, its mounting structure, and the Velcro attachment, I would be comfortable carrying something like a sweater, small water bottle, purse, or phone. I would not load it up with something particularly large or heavy. So far the wheels spin smoothly, but I have not ridden it long enough to determine whether they will hold up to my weight better than the wheels on my previous scooter. That will ultimately be the biggest long-term test for me. Based on my initial experience, though, I am very happy with the overall package. The frame feels substantial, the controls are comfortable, the dual brakes are a major improvement, and the folding design makes it considerably more practical. I just hope the wheels and frame continue to feel this solid after extended use.
