Remote Control Outdoors, Finally!
I purchased this 2 outlet outdoor smart plug so that I could use it with our front yard decorations. I've been wanting a way to turn on and off the Christmas lights and other decorations from inside the house without having to go outside into the cold to unplug them. The Meross Outdoor Smart Plug worked perfect for the job! I was able to hook up the outlet by simply plugging it into the existing wall outlet, so there's NO wiring necessary. I then went to my Apple IOS iPhone Home kit, opened it up, and then clicked on the Add Accessory button, Scanned the code on the side of unit. After about 10 seconds everything was found and added. I simply renamed the 2 plugs (1 for the Christmas Lights, and the other for the Decorations) and it was done. Just for the sake of it, I decided that I also wanted to be able to control this with my Alexa system as well.. Heck, if you can just say Alexa turn off the Christmas lights, or have them automatically go off when I give the goodnight command to the system every night, why not. To do this, all I had to do was go to the Meross manufactures app and click on the plus sign (add device) button. To my surprise it didn't even have to search for it. The app immediately came up saying "Unbound devices in the network" from there I just had to click on the "add" button and it was done! I was able to then name the switches individually in the Meross app and add them to the Alexa. The outdoor outlet hasn't given me any issues while I've been using it. There's a rubber door cover that moves out of the way, without getting lost when you don't need it. Because of the way this unit is built I can see that a little rain isn't going to cause this unit to fail. My wife has already sprayed it with the garden hose when watering the flowers. Another great feature of this unit is the plug end. I know it's silly, but the plug end is on a 90 degree angle, so you don't have to worry about the plug pushing out of the wall 3 inches. This gave me the ability to plug it into my covered outlets outside and run the cord straight down and out of the box. I didn't have to fight with the wire cover at all. I would recommend this Smart Out Door Outlet to anyone that has some outside items like I do. I may even get another one so I can run the little water feature in the front of the house all year. I can see this Smart Outlet being very handy around the house, even inside too.
