Buyer Beware – KingChii Considers a 5–10°F Temperature Difference “Normal”
I purchased this humidor expecting it to maintain a reasonably accurate temperature, as temperature control is one of the primary functions of a temperature-controlled humidor. I initially experienced condensation and water accumulating inside the unit. I contacted KingChii customer service and followed their troubleshooting recommendations. When the problem continued, I removed my cigars and performed my own testing. I made sure the water collection tray was dry and placed two calibrated hygrometers inside the empty humidor. I allowed it to operate undisturbed for 48 hours. The humidor was initially set to 68°F, while the calibrated hygrometers were reading approximately 71°F. KingChii then instructed me to lower the temperature to 65°F and conduct another test. I did exactly that. The room temperature was approximately 70°F, and I monitored the humidor for 24 hours. The average internal temperature was 69.24°F while the unit was set to 65°F. I contacted customer service because the humidor was clearly not maintaining the temperature I selected. Their response is what concerns me most. KingChii stated that a 5–10°F temperature difference inside this humidor can occur during normal operation. Let that sink in: according to the manufacturer/seller, you can set the humidor to 65°F and the actual temperature inside can be as high as 70–75°F and they consider that normal. That is not what I would expect from a temperature-controlled cigar humidor. Temperature stability is important for proper cigar storage, and a 5–10°F deviation is not a minor fluctuation. There is a significant difference between normal temperature variation within a cabinet and the cabinet consistently operating several degrees above its programmed temperature. What makes this more frustrating is that I did not simply complain that the temperature “looked wrong.” I followed their troubleshooting instructions, removed my cigars, used independent calibrated instruments, and provided multiple 24-hour data showing the average temperature. When I pointed out that the average was 69.24°F with the unit set to 65°F, they focused on normal fluctuations rather than addressing why the average temperature was almost 4.25°F higher than the setting. I ultimately requested a warranty claim. Instead of addressing the warranty request, they again stated that the temperature difference was within their acceptable range. Potential buyers should be aware of this before purchasing: KingChii's customer service considers a 5–10°F difference between the programmed temperature and the actual internal temperature to be normal operation. For me, that is unacceptable for a temperature-controlled humidor, particularly when the purpose of purchasing this type of unit is to maintain a controlled environment for cigars. Based on both the performance of the unit and my experience with customer service, I would not purchase this product again.
